How to Break the Wall and Escape Hell in a Cell
Once the bell sounds inside Hell in a Cell, it tends to mean the clock is ticking on that structure actually keeping the combatants contained. This is especially true in WWE 2K23, as there are two reliable ways to bust out and escape Hell in a Cell.
In both cases, you’ll be trying to break the walls of Hell in a Cell in the corners at the very bottom of your screen. The corners up top, where steel stairs happen to be placed, proves difficult to be broken open. The first thing you’ll want to do is throw your opponent over the top rope and outside of the ring.
Once outside, start by using a mix of Light Attacks, Heavy Attacks, and Grabs while near the breakable corners. Usually a well timed strike while your opponent’s back is facing that corner will cause them to fall back and damage the wall. It may take a few more tries, but this will eventually break a wall if you can make sure the damage is done to the same part of the cage.
However, there is a more sure-fire way if you’ve got one banked finisher. You can use your Hell in a Cell finisher while standing near one of those breakable walls to send your opponent flying to the outside and leave them stunned while you escape and start climbing to the top of the structure.
How to Throw your Opponent off the Cell to the Ground
After you’ve broken free of the confines of Hell in a Cell, press RB or R1 when prompted outside the wall to begin climbing. About halfway up, you’ll receive another prompt which gives you the option to continue climbing or descending to the floor if your plans have already changed.
Once you’ve made it to the top of Hell in a Cell and your opponent has followed suit, the most effective thing you can do is quickly send them crashing back to the ground. Most of the time, if you try to use a Hammer Throw or standard Irish Whip, your opponent will be able to stop before careening off the edge of the structure.
To ensure that isn’t the case, fight them towards the far left or far right edges before A or X (Heavy Attack) to initiate your Cell Grapple and send them flying. You can also use your Hell in a Cell finisher in this situation, but be careful of your positioning. Depending on what finisher the superstar you’re using normally utilizes, being a bit too far away from the edge will likely cause you to just execute a normal finisher while on top of the cell.
How to put your opponent through the top of Hell in a Cell
If you’d rather deposit your rival directly into the ring than to the outside, you can instead choose to put them through the top of Hell in a Cell. The four square panels in the center of the cage are all breakable. In order to damage them, you’ll need to execute moves that drive your opponent down towards the cell floor while standing on those panels.
Much like the positioning on the edge, you’ll notice that moves which end up shifting you a bit too far away from any of these panels may not actually damage them. Generally, you’ll want to try keeping your back facing the absolute center of the cell while waiting for your opponent to approach. Once they’re close, the most reliable options for successfully breaking the floor are a Heavy Grapple (A or X after initiating a Grab) or using your finisher.
If your superstar’s finisher isn’t a front grapple or you’re having trouble finding a Heavy Grapple that works, you can also use the Carry Position to get into place before slamming your opponent down into that breakable floor. When it does finally give way, your opponent will crash directly to the mat. Depending on where you’re standing when the impact happens, you may still be standing on top or may slip down before landing on your feet.
Once the floor has been broken, you can also press RB or R1 while near that hole to climb down into the ring. This is especially useful as taking the long way down may allow your opponent too much time to recover from the impact.
If you want to add a little extra spice to that impact, there is a way to crank things up. To start, head outside of the ring and retrieve a table by pressing LB or L1 while against the apron on any side except for the bottom of your screen. After you slide back into the ring, you’ll want to pick that table up and place it beneath the cell tile you plan to send your opponent crashing through.
If you have a finisher saved, you can even use it to ignite the table and set it on fire. Carry your fight back to the top of the cage, and with a little luck you can drive your opponent through the top of the cage and the flaming table below in one fell swoop.
